R zone is an operating procedure that applies to all of the Municipality of West Grey’s facilities, properties and programs. The Rzone procedure enforces a code of conduct, which includes a set of expectations around violence, vandalism and inappropriate behaviour for participants and the general public.
Why do we need R Zone? |
Incidents of bullying, violence, vandalism and discriminatory behaviour have unfortunately risen over the past number of years. Prior to Rzone, no municipal by-law or policy existed that provided staff with clear direction and authority to deal with issues that were not clearly criminal behaviours requiring police involvement. Rzone contributes to safer, healthier and more respectful recreation environments.
The goal of the Rzone policy is to promote a positive, safe and supportive environment in all the Municipality of West Grey's buildings, programs, and operations. |
What does the 'R' mean? |
The 'R' in R Zone stands for 3 things:
The Rzone logo serves as a reminder to staff and the public that the operating procedure is in effect and applies to everyone: participants, officials, spectators, visitors, parents and staff. |
What types of incidents should be reported? |
All forms of violence, vandalism or inappropriate behaviour are unacceptable on municipal properties, facilities or in programs. Incidents involving the following should be reported:
For best results, reports should be completed within 24 hours of the incident |
Reporting |
How can I report an incident? If you’re involved in or witness a situation at a Municipal facility and a staff member is present, you can report it to the staff member directly. They, with your assistance, will complete an incident report. If the situation occurs at an ‘outdoor’ facility where staff is not available and it involves a community organization, report it to the organization in charge. Alternatively, reports may be filed online here, printed below, below or emailed to info@westgrey.com What happens once a report has been made? Whether reported in person, through an organization or online, the report will be logged by Municipal staff and will either be dealt with directly by the Municipality or forwarded to the appropriate group or organization for follow up. Each report will be reviewed on an individual basis. The nature and degree of discipline will be determined by the severity of the situation. If I report an incident, will it be kept confidential? The municipality will protect confidentiality under MFIPPA |
