West Grey building permits and inspections can be applied for online. The Cloudpermit system allows you to apply and to see the status of your permit at any time. First-time users must create an account by registering with an email address and agreeing to the terms of services. For more information, please visit our building and construction page. Burn permits |
Burn permits can be purchased by calling 519-369-2505 or by visiting the West Grey Fire Department located at 179 George Street West in Durham.
You will need to get a permit if your fire is larger than two-feet in diameter. The cost is $20 per month or $220 for the year. Permits must be purchased at least one hour prior to starting the fire. |
Civic addressing |
In an emergency, first responders need to find you or where the emergency is. Know your civic address. Lots in West Grey have numbered green signs near the entrance. This number will alert emergency responders to exact where you are. It is your responsibility to ensure your civic number is visible from the road while travelling in either direction. In rural areas a standard green reflective sign is required. It is the owner's responsibility to maintain this sign. Should you need a sign please call us at 519-369-2200. |
Dog tag licences |
All dogs in West Grey require dog tags which can be purchased at the municipal office. Dog tags are permanent but the annual fee must be paid each year. This program works with dog owners to promote responsible dog ownership and provide a useful tool in case a dog goes missing. Fees are due each year by March 31 and cost more depending on how many dogs are owned. Before March 31:

There is a $85 reclamation fee for any dog. Unpaid tags will be added to tax bills. |
Entrance permits |
Creating a new entrance to a property requires a permit. Please fill out an entrance permit form and email it to us. Should you need assistance, please call 519-369-2200 for more information. If the entrance is on a Grey County road, this request will require filing with the county. |
Kennel licences |
Kennel licences in West Grey are renewed annually at a fee of $150 prior to March 31, or $200 after March 31. For enquiries regarding a new kennel licence contact the municipal office at 519-369-2200. |
Lottery licences |
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is responsible for the lottery licence program in Ontario. The Municipality of West Grey works with the AGCO in issuing lottery licences to eligible charitable and religious organizations. The most common lotteries include raffles, break open tickets and bingo. All lotteries must adhere to AGCO's policies. The Municipality of West Grey is eligible to issue licences to eligible organizations for raffles with prize boards of $50,000 and under, bingo with up to a $5,500 prize board and break open tickets. Licences for lotteries that exceed these prize points must be obtained directly from AGCO. Municipal significant event application |
The Municipality of West Grey has created a policy to simplify and clarify the process for organizers of public events who want their event designated as a "municipally significant event." This will allow them to apply for a Special Occasion Permit (SOP) under the Liquor License Act, R.S.O. 1990, c.L.19, as amended, in order to sell and serve alcohol at their public event. Refreshment vehicle licence |
The Municipality of West Grey regulates and governs refreshment vehicles—commonly known as food trucks—through bylaw 38-2020. Operators may apply for temporary or permanent licences. Temporary licences are limited to 1-week and one location and cost $100. Permanent licences cost $300 annually, and may contain more than one location. In order to amend a location on a permanent licence, please contact us. A $50 fee is required to amend a permanent licence. Each vehicle requires its own licence. Most applications require supporting documentation including a report from public health, propane certificate, consent of owner of property and a photo of vehicle. Special event road permits |
Special event permits are required to close roads, takeover public spaces or hold festivals or shows. Permits should be obtained well in advance. Complete our municipal roads or county roads application to apply for a special event road permits. Trailer licences |
