Council meeting highlights - September 5, 2023

• Council received a delegation from Sue Godfrey respecting health and safety concerns with the road conditions of Concession 2 SDR.
• Council directed staff to send a letter of non-objection for the discharge of restricted firearms to the Chief Firearms Office of Ontario so that members of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association (CMSA) can train their horses for competitive sport.  
• Council received a report respecting a grant to conduct a 2023 compensation market check and approved the recommended 15 comparator municipalities. The market check will be prepared in time for the 2024 budget deliberations.
• Council approved a request to replace the digital message sign outside of the municipal office using funds from the Municipal Modernization Grant.
• Council directed staff to send a letter of support to Enbridge Gas Inc. respecting the Neustadt natural gas expansion project. Enbridge will be filing their leave to construct application with the Ontario Energy Board in the coming days.
• Council appointed Ed Stangler as a West Grey representative on the Elmwood Community Centre Board.
• Council received a 2023 mid-year budget variance report for information. The mid-year budget variances reflect year-to-date operating and capital to the end of June.
• Council received a report respecting building department activity for the second quarter of 2023 and year to date.      
• Council received a report respecting an early works tender for the Rockwood Terrace redevelopment project. For more information on the Rockwood Terrace redevelopment project please click here.   
• Council directed staff to proceed with replacing the furnace at the Ayton Centennial Hall.  
• Council congratulated all volunteers who contributed to the success of the Neustadt Night Markt at Neustadt Springs Brewery and the Durham Fall Fair at the Durham Community Centre.  
• Council members announced upcoming community events including an Ontario Flying Farmers event at the Saugeen Municipal Airport taking place September 8– 9, 2023 and the 153^rd Neustadt Fall Fair taking place September 15 – 16, 2023 at the Neustadt Arena.
