WEST GREY, ON — Mayor Christine Robinson and members of the municipal emergency control group met today (March 25, 2022) and terminated the emergency declaration issued on March 23, 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The termination was effective March 25, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.
“Operating under a state of emergency for the last two years is certainly unprecedented, however, business continuity, managing municipal assets and ensuring safety for staff and citizens has remained our priorities throughout this pandemic,” said Mayor Robinson. “As we have done since the COVID-19 response in March 2020, West Grey and our emergency control group relied on, and carefully followed, the excellent advice and direction of our public health professionals and leaders from all orders of government. I would like to extend our thanks to all for your efforts and support throughout this emergency.”
West Grey’s decision to terminate the emergency aligns with the similar declarations from neighbouring municipalities and is in line with the province easing restrictions. Protocols adopted during the pandemic, such as hand sanitization stations, increased cleaning regimes in municipal facilities, voluntary mask wearing, and plexi-glass barriers will remain in place for the time being.
