WEST GREY, ON –West Grey council has decided to use internet and telephone voting for the 2022 municipal election.
“As we learned from the 2018 election, alternate voting methods offered several benefits for West Grey electors, and resulted in an increase in voter participation,” said Mayor Christine Robinson.
Internet and telephone voting methods were selected for the following reasons:
- wider accessibility;
- greater flexibility for eligible voters to cast their ballots from anywhere;
- inclement weather and potential COVID-19 impacts will not be obstacles;
- online and telephone voting in the 2018 election resulted in a 13.4 per cent voter turnout increase over 2014;
- cost-effective and environmentally-friendlier option;
- and, election results will be available moments after the polls close.
