WEST GREY, ON - West Grey council has appointed Kerri Mighton, West Grey’s director of finance and treasurer, as interim chief administrative officer (CAO) effective February 12, 2024. West Grey’s current CAO, Laura Johnston, has accepted a new position with another municipality.
“On behalf of council, I would like to extend thanks to Laura for her years of service to West Grey,” said Mayor Kevin Eccles. “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with her. Her professionalism and work ethic have been exemplary, and we wish her continued success in her new position.”
Johnston joined the municipality in December 2017, and led several projects that improved corporate processes and advanced the community. During her tenure, West Grey implemented its first Community Improvement Plan, underwent a robust centralized records management system, launched strategic plans focused on enhanced communications and economic development, increased online services, expanded recreation and community events, and increased intergovernmental advocacy.
Mighton has been with the municipality since 1994, starting with the former Town of Durham and continuing with the amalgamated Municipality of West Grey. In addition to her statutory position as municipal treasurer, Mighton has taken a leadership role in several initiatives including overseeing the corporation’s technology, customer service and asset management programs.
“I would like to thank Kerri for stepping into the interim role,” said Mayor Eccles. “Kerri’s years of experience and depth of knowledge will certainly be invaluable during the transition period.”
Over the coming weeks, council will determine the process to recruit West Grey’s next CAO.
