Back to SearchThe Municipality of West Grey recently completed an Engineering Study entitled, “Durham Water and Wastewater Treatment System Capacity Assessment, dated September 28, 2021, prepared by GSS Engineering Consultants Ltd. The study indicated that Durham Wastewater Treatment Plant in it’s existing condition is approaching the rated capacity of the plant as permitted by Provincial Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA).
The municipality is obligated to search for methods to increase the rated capacity of the plant in order for that plant to continue to treat the sewage flows generated within the urban area of Durham.
West Grey intends to investigate all available options including re-rating the capacity of the plant as wells as plant expansion that will require capital upgrades.
Public input and comments are invited, for incorporation into the planning and design of this project and will be received until June 20, 2022. Subject to the identification of a preferred method to enhance treatment capacity, comments received and receipt of necessary approvals, the Municipality of West Grey intends to proceed with planning, design and construction of this project, following completion of EA process.
