Council received a delegation from Monica Singh Soares, Marketing Business Engagement Specialist with Life Directions Employment Support respecting a request for the Municipality of West Grey to get involved with the Light It Up! For NDEAM® campaign.
Council received a request from Birgitt Neffe respecting a request for a reduction in dog tag fees.
Council directed staff to proceed with a public engagement campaign soliciting feedback on the proposed renaming of the Durham Town Hall Park. Staff received a request from the Durham Homecoming Committee to rename the Durham Town Hall Park to the Durham 150 Park. The request received is in response to significant investments in the park celebrating Durham’s 150th anniversary.
Council received a report on the Riverside Park Redesign Project. West Grey has received funding for a park redesign of Riverside Park in Durham. The project includes a pavilion/stage structure and increased park amenities.
Council provided authorization to enter into a Connecting Link Agreement with Owen Sound Highway Maintenance Limited for the 2024/25 winter season at a cost of $28,365.50 plus HST for the maintenance of Garafraxa Street in Durham.
Council directed staff to enter into an agreement with Circular Materials Ontario (CMO) to act as a contractor for blue box collection at West Grey waste sites. As part of the agreement, CMO will compensate West Grey in the amount of $26,592 annually for this collection.
Council appointed members to the Durham Business Improvement Area Board (BIA). The BIA board aims to promote the business improvement area as a business, employment, tourist, and shopping area.
Council directed staff to proceed with a public engagement campaign soliciting feedback on the proposed road renaming of Coral-Lea Drive. Staff received a request to rename Coral-Lea Drive at the south end of West Grey to ‘Watson Drive’. The request was brought forward to honour former Mount Forest mayor Alex Watson for his role in the creation of the industrial park lands at the edge of Mount Forest.
Council directed staff to initiate discussions with representatives from the City of Owen Sound, the Owen Sound Police Services board, and the West Grey Police Services board to evaluate the feasibility, benefits, and potential structure of a joint municipal police service.
Council shared information about upcoming community events, including:
- 154th Annual Neustadt Fall Fair taking place, September 21, 2024;
- Neustadt Lion’s Club – Ham and Scalloped Potato Dinner taking place on September 22, 2024, from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m;
- Normanby Plowing Match taking place on September 7, 2024.
