- Council received a delegation from Marian Ratcliffe respecting dark sky education initiatives undertaken in 2023.
- Council received a delegation from Dawn McNab, West Grey Durham Lions Club respecting lottery licence application fees. Council directed staff to amend the fees and charges bylaw to set lottery licence fees at 1% of the prize value with a minimum fee of $25 and a maximum fee of $500 per licence.
- Council received a delegation from Chris McNab, Durham and District Trail Blazers respecting a proposed snowmobile trail in the downtown Durham area. Council deferred a decision on this request pending the receipt of additional information on how this will impact the use of trails.
- Council received correspondence from Darlene Lamberti, Centre Grey Health Services Foundation respecting a naming opportunity for the Markdale Hospital. Council directed staff to request that the office in the in-patient department be named after the Municipality of West Grey.
- Council received correspondence from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing respecting 2024 ROMA conference delegations. Council directed staff to submit requests for delegation respecting properties inadvertently merging on title and additional funding for infrastructure.
- Council received correspondence from Shirley Young, Elmwood Chamber of Commerce respecting a new location for a nativity scene. Council authorized the Chamber to locate its nativity scene on the former Elmwood library property, being 25 Main Street South, Elmwood.
- Council received a report summarizing recent activity and next steps for the working group focused on facilitating mutual growth and essential development in the Municipality of West Grey and the Town of Hanover.
- Council approved the 2024 council meeting calendar which is available at www.westgrey.com/council.
- Councillor Doug Townsend was appointed to the West Grey Library Board following a request for an additional library board member.
- Council agreed to support in principle an annual budget contribution of $10,000 for ongoing development and maintenance of the West Grey recreational trails system. Development and maintenance will include the installation of trail signage and infrastructure on a 1.5 km stretch of trail running through the town of Durham.
- Council directed staff to bring forward a bylaw to enter into a usage agreement with the West Grey Soccer Club for use of the Durham Soccer Pitch.
- Council directed staff to research and develop physical and educational traffic calming pilot initiatives to deter speeding in our urban areas. Traffic calming pilot initiatives will be explored with budget considerations and assessed on a trial basis over the next two years to determine their effectiveness and possible expansion.
- Council members announced upcoming community events including the Ayton tree lighting and the Elmwood tree lighting on November 26, 2023.
