Council received a delegation from Don Tremble, The Community Care Committee, requesting the waiving of rental fees for the upcoming Toronto Maple Leaf’s alumni fundraising hockey game.
Council directed staff to send a letter of support for a resolution passed by the Township of Southgate and the Town of the Blue Mountains respecting the Establishment of an Ontario Rural Road Safety Program. The program will allow rural municipalities to make the critical investments needed to reduce the high number of people being killed and seriously injured on Ontario’s rural roads.
Council passed a resolution to call on the provincial and federal governments for support by visiting SolveTheCrisis.ca and showing your support. The ‘Solve the Crisis’ campaign is a culmination of years of advocacy from Ontario’s Big City Mayors on the mental health, addictions, and homelessness crisis across Ontario.
Council decided against the naming request for the Durham Town Hall Park. The park will continue to be known as Durham Town Hall Park.
Council directed staff to bring forward a bylaw to adopt a new procedural bylaw. A procedural bylaw ensures effective governance by providing a clear framework for conducting meetings and making decisions.
Council approved the request to rename Coral-Lea Drive to Watson Drive. The name change is recognition of the late Alex Watson, former mayor of Mount Forest for his role in the creation of the industrial park lands at the edge of Mount Forest.
Council shared information about upcoming community events, including:
- Poppy Campaign at the Durham Legion on November 8 and 9, 2024;
- Remembrance Day Service on November 11, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Durham Cenotaph;
- South Bruce Grey Health Care community engagement session on November 12, 2024, at 6 p.m. at the Durham Community Centre;
- Ontario Health Coalition Trojan Horse Ontario Tour to fight privatization of hospital surgeries in Ontario on November 27, 2024, at 9 a.m. at the Durham Town Hall.
