- Council received a delegation from Josef Silnica respecting a request to keep a pet goat.
- Council declared a baseball tournament event as being municipally significant. The tournament will take place at the Ayton Ball Park from July 28 to July 30, 2023. The baseball tournament is intended to provide family fun for the community while raising funds for playground equipment for the Normanby Community School.
- The Durham BIA received council support to start a Farmers’ Market in Durham. The Farmers’ Market will run from June 16, 2023, to October 13, 2023, and will be held every Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 308 received approval from council to expand their Veteran Banner Program. This expansion will allow for an additional six banners in Durham and three banners in Ayton.
- Council directed staff to send a letter of support to provincial government in support of resolutions received from municipalities respecting a call for action to reduce municipal insurance costs.
- Council directed staff to send a letter of support to the provincial government in support of a resolution received from the Municipality of North Perth respecting support for school bus stop arm cameras.
- Council received a report from the Chief Administrative Officer regarding the costs associated with RFP WG22-19: Study and Analysis of Policing Services Models. This report outlines the hours and corresponding costs beyond the $80,000 fee for the MNP consultant contract.
- Council directed staff to reallocate $25,000 of the surface treatment budget for Highland Estates/Concession 6 and $60,000 from the Victoria Street project to the Concession 2 reconstruction project. The reconstruction of Victoria Street will be postponed until further notice.
- Council received a report from the Director of Infrastructure and Development/CBO regarding building department activity for the first quarter of 2023.
- Council approved a municipal Volunteer Program Policy that encourages community involvement and engagement in West Grey. Volunteers are encouraged to watch the West Grey website for upcoming volunteer opportunities.
- Council passed a Grants to Organizations Policy which will provide grants to non-profit organizations and groups within West Grey. The Grants to Organizations policy will be in place for the 2024 budget year. Staff will communicate the new process with past grant recipients.
- Council members announced upcoming community events including the Elmwood Chamber of Commerce Wing Night on Friday, May 19, 2023 at the Elmwood Community Centre; the Durham and District Horticultural Society Plant Sale on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Riverside Park; the Neustadt and District Lions Club 47th Annual Crab, Steak or Lobster-Fest on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the Neustadt Arena; and the Elmwood Firefighter’s Association Breakfast on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the Elmwood Community Centre.
