Council received a delegation from Ron Barnett of ColourPix regarding a donation for his 2024 Walk Bike Drive Safe Campaign to help motorists better see pedestrians.
Council received a presentation from Janice Atwood from Principles Integrity respecting a recommendation report regarding Mayor Eccles.
Council directed staff to send letters of support for correspondence received on the following topics:
- Association of Municipalities of Ontario and Ontario Medical Association Joint Health campaign;
- Long-service medals for police and paramedics;
- Regulations for the importation and safe use of lithium ion-batteries;
- Support for family doctors;
- The province implementing sustainable police funding for small rural municipalities.
Council directed staff to enter into a contract with ML consulting, to a maximum of $30,000, to conduct a comprehensive compensation review for municipal staff (including library staff) and council. The compensation review is expected to be completed by October 2024.
Council received a staff report on ‘2024 Q2 Building Department Activities’ for information purposes. Building permits to date have decreased compared to 2023, but building values have increased.
Council directed staff to bring forward a bylaw to amend the fees and charges bylaw to increase the minimum tipping fees at the waste and diversion sites for sorted waste loads to $15.00 and unsorted waste loads to $40.00. West Grey encourages residents to utilize curbside collection services.
Council confirmed the Saugeen Municipal Airport Commission bylaw. The Saugeen Municipal Airport Commission worked with legal counsel and the clerks of the respective member municipalities on the creation of the new bylaw.
Council directed staff to enter into a lease agreement with EarlyOn for use of the Durham and District Community Centre boardroom. Entering into the requested lease benefits both the municipality and EarlyOn as utilizing the community centre provides direct access to other nearby amenities.
Council shared information about upcoming community events, including:
- Durham Fall Fair taking place from August 30, 2024, to September 2, 2024;
- Elmwood Homecoming taking place from August 30, 2024, to September 2, 2024;
- Durham Conservation Area Open House on August 25, 2024.
