Municipal fire ban lifted

For Immediate Release
The fire ban issued for the Municipality of West Grey is now lifted.
The West Grey Fire Chief would like to caution people to take care when burning as conditions are still favourable for grass fires due to the amount of dead grass from the dry spell.
Burn permits are available through the office of the Fire Chief for the Municipality of West Grey at 179 George St. West in Durham. Please remember to call before you burn.

Please be advised that the Corporation of the Municipality of West Grey intends to adopt the proposed 2023 fees and charges bylaw, in accordance with subsection 391(1) of the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c. 25.
The bylaw will replace Fees and Charges Bylaw 45-2021 and will incorporate multiple staff recommendations from the following staff report:

West Grey, ON - For Immediate Release
A fire ban has been issued for the Municipality of West Grey on Wednesday June 7, 2023, and is in effect from 8 a.m. on June 7, 2023, until further notice. This ban includes all open-air burning.
All issued burn permits are cancelled at this time. Permits will be extended once the ban is lifted.
The fire ban includes campfires, agricultural burns and open air burning of any kind.

Currently there is NOT an open-air fire ban in place in Grey County.
The Grey County Fire Chiefs are monitoring / evaluating conditions daily.
At this time, we would ask anyone considering an open-air fire / campfire to be extremely cautious and ensure they are following local municipal bylaws / regulations such as:
- Have a permit (if required)
- Having means to extinguish on hand
- Never leave a fire unattended
- Completely extinguish the fire when finished
