Council meeting highlights - February 18, 2025

Council received a presentation from Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) regarding the Durham Upper Dam and Frazil Ice Management. SVCA outlined potential plans and financial strategies for the next steps related to the dam.

Council heard a delegation from South East Grey Community Health Centre regarding updates on programs and activities.

Council directed staff to send a letter of support regarding correspondence received respecting Support of the Canadian and Ontario Governments’ negotiations with the United States Government on Trade Tariffs.

Council received a staff report on South Street Reconstruction for information purposes. The scope of the project is to reconstruct South Street from Elgin Street to Countess Street South.

Council authorized an agreement with W. G. Kelly Construction for the replacement of bridge structure G-044. The total cost to replace structure G-044, excluding HST and administration costs, is $1,914,000.

Council directed staff to bring forward a bylaw to provide for the indemnity and defence of current and former members of Council, local boards, and employees of the Corporation against loss or liability incurred while acting on behalf of the Municipality. The proposed bylaw provides indemnity and defence against loss or liability incurred in the performance of duties while acting in good faith.

Council directed staff to bring forward bylaws to finalize an exchange of lands between West Grey and the Canadian Lemkos Association. In September 2023, Council directed staff to facilitate a land exchange between the Municipality of West Grey and the Canadian Lemkos Association.

Council shared information about upcoming community events, including:

• Wing Night March 1, 2025, from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. At the Neustadt Community Centre.
