Nominations for the 2022 municipal elections were filed with the Clerk from May 2 - August 18, 2022, during regular business hours (Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and on Nomination Day, August 19, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

In accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, nominations had to be filed using the prescribed forms, accompanied by the prescribed nomination filing fee, and nominations for an office on a Council must have been endorsed by at least 25 persons.

The filing fee was $200 for the office of Mayor and $100 for all other offices. The filing fee was payable by cash, debit, certified cheque, or money order.

The prescribed Nomination Paper – Form 1 and Endorsement of Nomination – Form 2 issued by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing can be accessed below. Please note that candidates for school board trustee did not have to submit the Endorsement of Nomination - Form 2.

No person who proposes to be a candidate may solicit or accept contributions for election purposes or incur campaign expenses until a nomination paper has been filed.

To run for office, you must be eligible to vote in the election. On the day you file your nomination, you must be a Canadian citizen aged 18 or older, qualify as a resident or non-resident elector, and not ineligible under the Municipal Election Act or any other Act or otherwise prohibited by law to be nominated for or to hold the office.

The Municipality of West Grey is committed to inclusivity and accessibility. We are committed to ensuring that all legislative requirements set out in the Municipal Elections Act and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act are met or exceeded.

In accordance with the Municipal Elections Act the Clerk shall prepare a plan regarding the identification, removal and prevention of barriers that affect electors and candidates with disabilities and shall make the plan available to the public before voting day in a regular election.
