Marriage Licences

Marriage licences may be obtained at the West Grey municipal office during regular business hours.

Making an appointment is strongly recommended, as this helps ensure that staff are available and have adequate time to review your application and supporting documentation; providing a draft copy of your completed application ahead of time can help expedite the process.

Please ensure you bring the following documents with you to your appointment:

  • Complete a marriage licence application form and ensure it is signed by both applicants.
  • Have one or both applicants bring the original application to the municipal office along with two (2) pieces of valid government-issued identification for each person getting married. One (1) piece of identification for each person getting married must include their photo. Identification must be valid and original (photocopies, scanned images, or pictures on electronic devices will not be accepted). Health cards, S.I.N. cards, and expired identification will not be accepted.
  • Provide original or certified true copies of supporting documentation such as proof of divorce, annulment, or death certificates as applicable if either party has been previously married.
  • Pay the licence fee of $150 by debit/cash/cheque payable to the Municipality of West Grey.

Once issued, a marriage licence is valid anywhere in Ontario for a period of three (3) months from the date of issue.

If you were divorced in Canada you must submit official proof of the divorce when you apply for a marriage licence. This can be the original or a court-certified copy of a:

  • Final decree
