Inquiries and Applications

The Planning Department supports residents and the public who are:

  • current or prospective home/property owners who have general questions or comments about the property or other lands within West Grey.
  • realtors, architects/designers, consultants, or agents with questions on behalf of their client.

The completion of an inquiry application (including any supporting documentation) enables staff to understand the nature of the inquiry and assist accordingly.

There is no fee charged for an inquiry application.

If a matter is more complex or requires a more in-depth review, staff may request a follow-up meeting after an inquiry application is made.

An inquiry application it is not intended for inquiries concerning an existing application that has already been submitted to the Municipality. Inquiries related to existing applications should be directed to the Planning Department and reference the applicable file number.

A land severance (officially called a consent under the Planning Act) is the authorized separation of a piece of land to form a new lot or a new parcel of land.

A consent may also be required when making adjustments to existing properties through right-of-ways, long term leases, easements or lot additions.

To apply for a consent to sever, please fill out this form.

The application fee must be paid at the time of submission.

If your project needs a minor change and follows the intent of the zoning bylaw, you may apply for a minor variance.

The application fee must be paid at the time of submission.

If the proposed use or structure on a property does not meet the requirements of the West Grey zoning bylaw the property owner may apply for a zoning bylaw amendment (also referred to as a re-zoning). The proposed zoning bylaw amendment must conform to the relevant Official Plan or an amendment to the Official Plan may also be required.

To apply for a zoning bylaw amendment and/or west grey official plan amendment, please fill out this form.

The required fee must be paid at the time of submission.

A zoning compliance letter provides information the Municipality may have with respect to the status of zoning and official plan designation on a property; it also includes outstanding bylaw enforcement complaints on the subject property.

Zoning compliance letters do not include building permit records information, such as building code orders or status of permits.

Planning Department can provide a zoning compliance letter upon request, subject to the payment of the applicable fee (per the Fees and Charges Bylaw).
