Water, Wastewater and Storm Water
West Grey operates water and sewer systems in the settlement areas of Durham and Neustadt. All homeowners are responsible for maintaining the water and sanitary lines from the street to inside their dwelling.
If you have private well and/or septic system, please visit the Building Department page.
Water
The Municipality of West Grey's water systems operate under the Quality Management Policy. The Municipality conducts annual reports on Durham and Neustadt drinking water, which document findings of the inspections, including required and recommended actions per section 19 of the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002.
The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks also releases annual inspection reports on drinking water, which provide an overview of their programs, policies, and initiatives to protect drinking water in Ontario.
Hydrant Flushing
The flushing of hydrants in Durham and Neustadt occurs periodically from May through to September 30 every year. Please check the water colour prior to doing your laundry. Some residents may experience low water pressure and discolouration.
Wastewater
West Grey operates two wastewater treatment systems. We are responsible for all monitoring, quality assurance, quality control, reporting, inspecting, collection and maintenance of the facilities. Each year the municipality releases wastewater collection system performance reports. This report provides a summary of all monitored data, along with any corrective actions needing to take place, maintenance activities and other information.
