Winter Maintenance
West Grey's winter control program aims to plow roads at least once every 24 hours if required. Delays will occur during significant weather events, freezing rain or heavy snow fall.
Skilled operators cover 17 plow routes and operate a fleet of 11 trucks (plow and spread a sand/salt mixture) and 6 graders (push an ice blade gravel roads) over more than 700 km of roadway .
Snow clearing operations generally start at 7:00 a.m. unless there is significant snowfall or poor visibility.
All road closures will be announced on social media and on our service disruption page.
The following reminders are made in accordance with Traffic Control Bylaw 92-2018 and any amendments.
- No person shall park a vehicle on a highway between midnight and 7:00 a.m. from November 15 of any year to April 15 of the following year.
- Snow may not be pushed onto the sidewalk and roadway normally used for pedestrian or vehicular traffic, including right‑of‑way as it creates a hazard and is prohibited.
- Using markers to delineate the sidewalk can be helpful to plow operators however, the road allowance should not have hazardous items which may otherwise injure a person.
- Please ensure reflectors/markers remain on your property and not on the municipal road allowance. Items on a road allowance are subject to damage from plows and will not be replaced.
- The Highway Traffic Act also prohibits any person from depositing snow or ice on a roadway.
- If you have a fire hydrant near your property, please assist us by removing snow to and around the hydrant within 24-hours after the end of the snowfall.
- Please ensure that recycling and garbage is placed in a location so as not to interfere with snow clearing and operations.
