The Ministry of Natural Resources Conservation Land Tax Incentive Program (CLTIP) offers a tax incentive to landowners who own environmentally significant or ecologically sensitive land. This program is geared toward those who preserve natural habitats, wetlands, woodlands, and other important ecological features on their property. By enrolling in CLTIP, landowners can receive property tax reductions to help offset the costs associated with maintaining and conserving these lands. The program encourages landowners to protect natural areas that support biodiversity, wildlife habitats, and essential ecosystems. To qualify for this program, landowners must enter into a conservation agreement with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) or demonstrate that their land meets specific environmental criteria. To participate in this program, landowners must develop a detailed forest management plan in consultation with a professional forester and submit it for approval. The plan must outline strategies for maintaining the forest’s health, enhancing biodiversity, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the forest ecosystem. Once approved, landowners receive significant property tax savings. This program is beneficial for those who want to sustainably manage their woodlands, conserve wildlife habitats, and potentially generate income through sustainable forestry practices. MFTIP helps reduce the financial burden on landowners while promoting responsible forest stewardship.

Low-income homeowners in Grey County who meet certain criteria, and whose property taxes have increased over the previous year, may apply for a tax reduction of up to $500 against an eligible increase.

This program has been established under Section 319 of the Municipal Act, 2001 and is open to residential property owners who are, or whose spouse is:

65 years of age or older and who during the year is or was in receipt of payments under the Federal Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) program or Ontario Works; or
A disabled person of any age who is or was in receipt of benefits under the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).
