About West Grey
Welcome to West Grey, a vibrant and welcoming community nestled in the heart of Ontario, Canada. Surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty and rich cultural history, West Grey is the perfect blend of rural charm and modern convenience. Whether you’re a visitor exploring the area or a resident calling it home, we are proud to offer a lifestyle that balances the serenity of nature with the warmth of community.
West Grey was formed by order of the Province of Ontario on January 1, 2001 when the former Townships of Bentinck, Glenelg, and Normanby, the Village of Neustadt, and the Town of Durham were amalgamated in a county-wide reorganization. With a rich history steeped in agriculture, forestry, and industry, the area boasts a deep-rooted heritage that is reflected in its buildings, festivals, and local traditions. Hike or cycle through the Saugeen River trails, or simply unwind with a picnic in one of the area’s many parks.
One of the defining features of West Grey is its strong sense of community. Here, neighbours know each other by name and the local businesses thrive on the support of those who live and work here. Our community hosts a number of annual events, such as the Durham Agricultural Fair and local farmers’ markets, where residents come together to celebrate the culture, food, and creativity that make West Grey unique.
West Grey’s economy is diverse, with agriculture, forestry, manufacturing, and services all playing important roles in supporting the community. The region is home to thriving small businesses, and the Municipality continues to attract those seeking a quieter, rural lifestyle while still being within reach of larger urban centers. With ongoing development in infrastructure and services, West Grey is an excellent place to live.
We invite you to explore all that West Grey has to offer—whether you're visiting for the first time or returning to enjoy its familiar charm. From outdoor adventures and community festivals to local history and tranquil countryside, West Grey is a place that will capture your heart.
