West Grey Council Inaugural Meeting sets course for municipal excellence and community building

West Grey Council Inaugural Meeting sets course for municipal excellence and community building Posted On: Thursday, December 6, 2018
Acknowledging a clear directive from the public and a common thread of a shared commitment to acting in the best interests of this community, West Grey’s newly-elected mayor, Christine Robinson, committed to delivering on the electors’ mandate of attention to core services, a focus on customer service, being stewards of West Grey’s resources and leading with responsible governance.

“This Council brings a wealth of knowledge and a range of significant experiences to our local government decision-making table,” Mayor Robinson said. “I am confident that, together, we will promote collaboration, respectful discussions as well as balanced debate that will result in thoughtful resolutions and decisions made on behalf of West Grey, for the benefit of West Grey.”

The inaugural meeting, held on December 3, featured piper Bill McMeeken leading the procession of the council-elected, the Durham Silver Threads Choir singing the national anthem, and, following the individual oaths of office, each member of council addressing the capacity audience in council chambers.

In closing, Mayor Robinson highlighted three important commitments: “To council, I commit to providing the leadership to help guide our decisions as a council. To staff, I commit to supporting and encouraging your professional advice and opinions. To the citizens, I commit to providing the best governance - all of which will have a positive impact on West Grey.”

Two meetings remain for 2018: December 10 Committee of the Whole when the council meeting schedule for 2019 will be set; and the final council meeting of the year on December 17. Meeting dates and agendas are posted to http://westgrey.com/municipal-calendar.cfm.
