Candidates may file a nomination form during regular business hours beginning Tuesday, May 1, 2018 with the last day and time for filing being Friday, July 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. A prescribed fee in the amount of $200.00 for Head of Council and $100.00 for all other candidates payable by cash, debit, certified cheque or money order, and the endorsement of at least 25 persons must accompany the nomination form. Candidates must not spend or raise any funds for their election campaign until the nomination form has been filed.
New this year are rules for third party advertising. A third party advertiser is any individual, corporation or trade union that causes an election campaign advertisement to appear. Third party advertisers are required to register with the municipality where they want to advertise. Registrations of third party advertisers will be accepted between Tuesday, May 1, 2018 and Friday, October 19, 2018. Until the Municipality certifies the registration, a third party advertiser may not spend money on their campaign, accept contributions or begin advertising.
The following are the Municipal Council positions to be filled at the 2018 Municipal election:
District School Boards
Bluewater District School Board – One trustee to be elected from the combined municipalities of West Grey and Hanover (Nominations to be filed with the Municipality of West Grey)
Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board – One trustee to be elected from the combined municipalities of Grey Highlands, Hanover, Southgate and West Grey. (Nominations to be filed with the Municipality of West Grey)
Conseil Scolaire Viamonde (French Public School Board) – One trustee to be elected from the combined area of all the municipalities within the Counties of Bruce, Grey, Dufferin and Simcoe. (Nominations for this office may be filed at the Barrie City Hall at 70 Collier Street, Barrie, ON T: 705-739-4220, or upon request, at the Municipal Clerk’s Office in your municipality, if the distance between your residence and the Barrie City Hall is greater than 100 kilometres).
Conseil Scolaire Catholique Providence (French Separate School Board) – One trustee to be elected from the combined area of all the municipalities located within the Counties of Grey, Oxford and Perth. (Nominations to be filed at the office of the Woodstock City Hall at 500 Dundas Street, Woodstock, ON T: 519539-2382 or upon request, at the Municipal Clerk’s Office in your municipality if the distance between your residence and the Woodstock City Hall is greater than 100 kilometres.)
The Municipality of West Grey will be utilizing Internet / Telephone Voting for the 2018 Municipal Election. Paper ballots will not be available.
