It will be exactly 175 years since Archibald Hunter spent his first night in what would become Durham. He forged his way north to the mighty Saugeen River, crossed it and made his way up the hill to an abandoned native teepee where he spent the night. The next day he decided to settle here and that was the beginning of our town.
The Durham Girls Alumni Band, in partnership with the Municipality of West Grey, is proud to take this opportunity to celebrate our town’s history with the citizens of Durham, and to thank them for the support they’ve received over the years.
At 7pm on May 1st, the band will parade from the Founding of Durham Historical Cairn near Trinity Anglican Church down the hill to the main corner, and then on to the Durham Town Hall Park where there will be a reception, concert, fellowship and refreshments. Bring a lawn chair, and enjoy music by Ron McManus beginning at 6:30pm. In case of rain, our celebrations will be held inside the Durham Town Hall.
All donations received will go towards the restoration of the Heritage Walkway Bridge.
Mark your calendars, and come out and celebrate the 175th Anniversary of the founding of Durham!
