LIP SYNC BATTLE

Location: Hanover Columbus Centre

Lip Sync Battle in support of Bruce Grey Mentorship, a local mentoring program for children & youth. Participants will compete by acting out a song for the audience, attempting to provide the most convincing presentation! Prizes awarded to top 3 acts, as decided by our panel of judges. This fundraiser also includes a Snack Bar, a Silent Auction and a 50/50 Draw. Interested people can sign up a team to compete (individually, as a businesss/organization team). Teams can be from 1 to 6 participants. Registration is by donation & forms are available on the website. Tickets to the event are $ 10 a person and are available at both Hanover & Walkerton Holst Office Pro locations, and Esite/Tech Corps in Hanover, or by contacting the office. Event is appropriate for teens & adults of all ages.

The Durham & District Horticultural Society presents its "150 Reasons to Garden" Flower/Photography Show and dinner. We are very pleased to announce that our Guest Speaker for the event is Denis Flanagan of Landscape Ontario giving a presentation on "Celebrating a Century of Horticulture in Canada." Denis graduated from Horticulture in Surrey, England and was involved in many projects including working for the Royal Family and achieved a Gold Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show. Following a successful transplant to Canada, Denis continued desgning award winning gardens including for Canada Blooms and has taught at several community colleges including Humber & Seneca. He is well known for his gardening shows on HGTV and continues to promote the joys & benefits of horticulture through the "Green for Life" program at Landscape Ontario. Entries into the Flower/Photo Show may be dropped off at the Durham Legion between 9AM and 1PM. Doors will open for viewing at 5PM. A delicious catered dinner will be served at 6PM followed by the awarding of prizes and our guest speaker. Ticket details available by calling 519-369-9975.

The Durham & District Horticultural Society hosts the 2017 "150 Reasons to Garden" Bus Tour on August 17th. We will visit 5 beautiful, diverse and educational gardens and nurseries from Durham to the Huron Coast. A stop for lunch in scenic Kincardine will include a walk through the Labyrinth Peace Garden, a true community coming together gardening gem! Durham & District Horticultural Society General Meeting

The Durham & District Horticultural Society welcomes Tanya Schlosser giving a timely presentation on one of our gardens' most beautiful creatures, the butterfly! Many of these pollinators are dropping in numbers and we will learn ways to help increase their population. We will also be learning ways to promote and help save the bee population which has been increasingly threatened in the past years. Whether you are an avid gardener or just like to "smell the roses" learn how important these insects are to not only our flowers, but to our vegetable plants & fruit trees as well.
